Varvara Tishina
soprano

Lyric repertoire with a focus on expressive line and dramatic truth
Varvara Tishina is a lyric soprano with roots in the lyric coloratura repertoire. Today, her repertoire includes Italian lyric
and bel canto roles alongside a growing focus on Russian lyric repertoire.
She is currently working on roles including Liù (Turandot), Musetta (La Bohème), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Natasha
(War and Peace), and Marfa (The Tsar’s Bride). Her voice combines a warm timbre with retained agility and ease in the upper register, supported by long legato phrasing and a natural responsiveness to text and musical line.
In the last two seasons in the Netherlands, she performed Tatiana in Eugene Onegin in a production with Opera op het Hogeland, marking an important step into fuller lyric repertoire. Previous stage experience includes Violetta (La Traviata), Mimì (La Bohème), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), and Amina (La Sonnambula), roles that remain central to her repertoire and continue to develop as part of her ongoing artistic work.
These roles have been performed in collaboration with companies and festivals in the Netherlands and France. She has also appeared in smaller roles in concert performances of opera at the ZaterdagMatinee in the Concertgebouw, broadcast nationally.
Varvara regularly performs concert and oratorio works, including Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem,
Orff’s Carmina Burana, Dvořák’s sacred works, Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C minor, Handel’s Messiah, and Bach’s Matthäus Passion and Johannes Passion. She appears in leading Dutch venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Philharmonie Haarlem, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, De Vereeniging in Nijmegen, and Musis Sacrum in Arnhem. Many of these performances have been broadcast nationally by AVROTROS Klassiek, including appearances
in concert series at the Concertgebouw such as the ZaterdagMatinee and Het Zondagochtend Concert.
Originally trained as a violinist before focusing on voice, Varvara brings strong ensemble awareness, musical precision, and stylistic versatility to her work as a singer. Her artistic background bridges Slavic expressive intensity with the structural clarity and musical discipline of Western European tradition.
Based in the Netherlands, she continues to build her international profile through opera and concert engagements
across Europe.
